New Riders authors collaborate:
Hillman Curtis, Happy Cog team up
20 August 2002
For Immediate Release
Two New Riders authors — one a widely known and respected master of Flash and New Media Design, the other a leading voice for web standards and independent content — have joined forces to redesign and produce the flagship site of Fox Searchlight Pictures, a leading producer and distributor of independent films.
The project teams Hillman Curtis, author of New Riders titles MTIV: Process, Inspiration and Practice for the New Media Designer (2002) and Flash Web Design: the v5 Remix (2001), and founder/chief creative officer of Hillman Curtis, Inc. (www.hillmancurtis.com) with Jeffrey Zeldman, author of New Riders titles Taking Your Talent to the Web (2001) and Forward Compatibility: Designing & Building With Web Standards (slated for early 2003 release) and founder/chief creative officer of Happy Cog (www.happycog.com).
Hillman Curtis’ eponymous design agency is widely respected for its new media and broadcast work on behalf of Adobe, Intel, MTV, and other high profile accounts. The agency has won numerous awards including Communication Arts’ Award of Excellence, One Show Gold, and SXSW Best of Show, and founder Hillman Curtis has been named one of the world’s top ten designers by the IPPA (www.ippa.org/designer_one_top.html). Hillman’s current New Riders title, MTIV, is a top seller at Amazon.com and in bookstores everywhere.
In addition to design and consulting work for clients including Clear Channel Entertainment, Warner Bros Movies, and The New York Public Library, Happy Cog has long produced non-commercial independent web content, notably the online magazine, A List Apart (www.alistapart.com). Company founder Jeffrey Zeldman (www.zeldman.com) is a leader of the web standards movement (www.webstandards.org) that persuaded Microsoft and Netscape to support the same technologies in their browsers, thus radically simplifying web development while making sites more accessible to all.
Both designers are fixtures on the design lecture circuit and prolific writers as well as designers. Fox Searchlight is the first collaboration between the two New Riders authors and their New York City-based web agencies.
